Introduction of to the department of Agriculture, Economics and Extension

Logar Higher Education Institute was approved and established based on the proposal No. (575) dated 13/12/1392 of the Honorable Ministry of Higher Education and the decree No. (1200) dated 20/12/1393 of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.

Following the establishment of the institute, based on the proposal of the Logar Higher Education Institute and the decision of the High Council of the Ministry of Higher Education No. (3) dated 26/12/1396, the Faculty of Agriculture was approved with two departments: Agronomy and Agricultural Economics & Extension. In 1398 (Solar Year), students were admitted through the Kankor examination to pursue higher education in these departments.

The Agricultural Economics & Extension Department currently has (198) students in four classes, taught by five experienced lecturers. In addition, during the past three academic cycles (1401, 1402, and 1403), a total of 92 students has graduated from this department and been presented to society for service.

The Department of Agricultural Economics & Extension strives to be recognized as a leading academic department through teaching and scientific research, in alignment with the needs of the agriculture and livestock sector.

Mission:
The Department of Agricultural Economics & Extension, considering its available opportunities and resources, is committed to contributing to the sustainable economic and social development of the country by delivering academic and professional cadres through teaching, conducting scientific research, and meeting the needs of the labor market and society.

Objectives:

  1. Provide professional (theoretical and practical) education for students of the Agricultural Economics & Extension Department.
  2. Equip students with skills in agricultural economics and resources, agricultural enterprise management, agricultural extension and education, and rural development, in accordance with market demands.
  3. Conduct scientific research to address social and economic problems, promote knowledge, support agricultural development, and prepare materials for policy-making.
  4. Actively participate in the process of economic development through the provision of advisory services and involvement in the implementation of development projects.

The vision, mission, and objectives of the Agricultural Economics & Extension Department have been discussed, approved, and recorded in the department’s protocol No. (1) dated 07/01/1404, as well as in the Faculty of Agriculture’s academic council protocol No. (6) dated 28/4 /1404.

Background of the Agronomy Department

The Logar Institute of Higher Education was established based on the proposal No. (575), dated March 4, 2014 (13/12/1392 H.S.), from the Ministry of Higher Education, and was officially approved by the decree No. (1200), dated March 11, 2015 (20/12/1393 H.S.), of the Government of the Republic of Afghanistan.

Based on the proposal of the Logar Institute of Higher Education and the decision of the Higher Council of the Ministry of Higher Education (decision No. 3), dated March 17, 2018 (26/12/1396 H.S.), the Faculty of Agriculture was approved with two departments: Agronomy and Agricultural Economics and Development. In the academic year 2019 (1398 H.S.), students were introduced through the national entrance exam (Kankor) to pursue higher education in these departments.

Currently, the Agronomy Department has 73 students, and six permanent faculty members are responsible for conducting academic instruction.

Biography of Head of Agriculture Economics and Extension:

Ahmad Noor Stanikzai is a senior lecturer and head of the Agriculture Economics and Extension Department at Logar Higher Education Institute. He served as the Dean of Agriculture Faculty at the same institute from 2021 to 2023. Born in Mohammad Agha district of Logar province in 1991, he completed his school education at Mohammad Jan Khan High School in Logar province in 2007. The following year, he started his bachelor's degree in the Faculty of Agriculture at Kabul University and completed it in 2012.

After graduating from university, he began his career as a producer and presenter of an agriculture program that was broadcast from Arakozia radio station throughout the country. In the same year, he started working as a lecturer in the Faculty of Agriculture at Alberoni University, along with being a freelance translator.

In 2017, Ahmad Noor Stanikzai received a scholarship from the Higher Education Development Program (HEDP) to pursue his master's degree at the University Putra Malaysia (UPM). He has published two research papers in Food Research a Q3 Scopus Index Journal.
